Another Tasty Snack for Movie Night - Cheezy Italian Popcorn


Nutritional yeast is one of my all-time, favorite things to add to a variety of foods.  It has, what I refer to as a delicious case of multiple personalities!

In cookies, crackers and other baked goods it provides a rich buttery flavor; to soups, stews and stocks it provides a rich chicken flavor and to yogurt, popcorn, grits, rice and quinoa it adds a cheesy dimension!

Along with those delicious flavors, nutritional yeast adds a whole array of minerals and is the single best source for a host of B Vitamins including B 12!

One of my favorite movie night snacks is a bowl of organic blue or red popcorn, that I pop in an air popper or in a heavy bottomed pan on the stove (NEVER in a microwave!) in a little sunflower or olive oil and then top with a delicious Italian cheesy topping!

Cheezy Italian Popcorn
For each 4 cups of popped corn mix the following:

2 teaspoons nutritional yeast,
½ teaspoon dry Italian Seasoning
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon melted butter or flavored olive oil

Pour over your popped corn, toss to coat and ENJOY!!!

  1. this sounds good. What would it be good on when corn is a no-no? I bet the little bitty rice cakes. And with less oil maybe plain almonds would perk up a bit. Any other ideas anyone?

  2. Di, You always ask the best questions!!!!

    If you want to make cheezy almonds, you can substitute water for the oil to make a paste, spread it on your almonds and dehydrate or bake at your lowest oven setting until crisp!

    I haven't tried it on the tiny rice cakes but it sounds good! Has anyone else tried that. I wonder if you could do something similar with puffed rice cereal?
