More REAL FOOD to Tame Your Inner Snack Monster!


I recently found out that pumpkin seeds are one of the Super Food Trends for 2012.  If you own OMG! That’s Allergy Free?  you can see I was already ahead of that trend! 

To add to the recipes you already have in that cookbook here is a fun and easy, super healthy snack you can keep in your pocket, purse or briefcase to keep you from succumbing to a less nutritious snack when you are running errands or stuck in traffic!  They are so flavorful that I nibble on them one at a time . . .

I also love to serve them at informal parties like the big game coming up!

Here’s one of my favorite, super easy, really tasty, nutrient dense snacks . . .








OMG "Roasted" Garlic and Tamari Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are truly nutrient dense, crunchy little packages of nature’s goodness!  They are well documented sources of anti-inflammatories and yet they taste so darned delicious you would never even guess they are so good for you!   I recommend using a dehydrator for this recipe to keep the oils in the seeds fresh, but if you don’t have one, simply roast them on the lowest setting your oven allows.  These salty, garlicky little temptations will be the hit of your next informal party.  I tuck a little bag in my purse when I’m travelling to keep me from succumbing to my inner “snack monster”!

2 cups raw pumpkin seeds
2 tablespoons San J GF Low Sodium Tamari
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Toss thoroughly and spread in a single layer on non-stick dehydrator trays or baking sheets lined in parchment paper.

Instructions for dehydrating:  Set dehydrator at 100 degrees and process until very crisp, about 8-10 hours. 

Instructions for oven roasting:  Set oven temperature as low as possible.  If you have a convection fan turn it on to speed the roasting time.  Roast until completely crisp and very lightly browned.

Store roasted or dehydrated seeds in air-tight containers up to 1 month.  If you have little desiccant packs they will stay fresh and crispy longer.
