Gluten Free Eating in Santa Fe - Finding Great Options While Traveling

As I mentioned in my last post, eating well and staying on track while traveling can sometimes be challenging!  But with a little advanced planning and research you will be fine!  In fact, sometimes you can do better than just fine . . . you can enjoy some wonderful eating adventures!

Today I had the great fortune to spend some time in Santa Fe, New Mexico and I want to tell you about a jewel in the land of enchantment - BODY.  In one beautiful storefront you will find a yoga studio, a spa, an upscale clothing boutique, a shop with books, cards and inspiring gifts, healthy snacks and a cafe.  BODY has something for your body, mind, soul and taste buds!

But not just any cafe . . . BODY Cafe has a menu to live by!  They serve healthy, delicious, affordable foods that are wheat, dairy and sugar free, plus selections for vegan, raw and other special diets.   They are open from 7am until 9pm - so it's nearly impossible not to go back for all 3 meals plus snacks!

While enjoying quaint and beautiful downtown Santa Fe today my iPhone was stolen.  This put a little wrinkle in my plans.  So by the time I arrived at Body cafe, lunch was long past, but dessert was waiting!  They had 6 options for me to choose from and still stay wheat and dairy free!  It took me some time to decide but I finally narrowed it down to these . . . both are gluten and dairy free!

GF and DF Blueberry Peach Crumb Pie

GF and DF Strawberry Rhubarb Crumb with Almonds

I decided that it was so late and my phone needed 3 hours to be completely ready to use, so I checked in to a hotel, made myself a cup of tea and sampled both!  To my delight, they each had something very special to tell you about . . .

The Blueberry-Peach combo was a perfect pairing of sweet and tart fruits, the topping was light in texture and had crisp edges.  It was just a little sweeter than I prefer, but then I generally don't eat much sugar.  But I couldn't get enough of the filling!

The Strawberry Rhubarb had the best topping!  It was a wonderful combo of light and crunchy in texture and the filling was studded with pieces of fruit.  I found the sugar level to be perfect in this one!

In addition to these desserts, they also had half gallon jugs of Pineapple-Mango-Ginger-Lemongrass Kombucha!  And while I was waiting for the friendly counter staff to pack up my desserts, I saw them making delicious looking smoothies and juices.

They also make delicious and healthy chocolates . . . maybe tomorrow - they do open before I have to leave town in the morning!

I highly recommend that you visit BODY the next time you are near Santa Fe - it's actually worth a special trip!  Make appointments for some spa services, attend a class, shop for some special gifts and be sure to eat your way through the day at the Cafe!
