For several days now I've been compiling information on the toxic and hazardous chemicals commonly found in our homes. But before I post all of the info on how you go about creating a Chemical Free Sanctuary, I wanted to share this great post from Crunchy Betty! It fits in perfectly with the info I've been sharing on getting the toxic chemicals out of your bath and beauty care routine!
It seems she's right there with me on this topic!
This hair mask is fantastic! Isn't it great when you come across a post like this on the very morning you need to wash your hair!
To all of you who, like me, are cow's milk dairy free you have so many options!
- While substituting coconut milk was my choice, almond milk (especially the version you can make from my cookbook) is very high in proteins, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. In fact almond oil is a wonderful addition to countless DYI hair and skin rejuvenators.
- Hemp seed milk would also be a great option due to it's high protein content and the array of essential fatty acids it contains. If you don't have any on hand, simply blend a tablespoon of hemp hearts and 1/2 cup of ionized (pH 5.5) or filtered water.
- Brazil nut milk is so high in selenium that it should, in my humble opinion, be considered a nutraceutical! Since selenium is an antioxidant it will protect your hair from oxidative damage, not only from the environment but from heat styling as well! I can't wait to give it a try. To make it soak 3-4 Brazil nuts in 1/2 cup ionized (pH 9.5) or filtered water overnight. That soaking water will contain some unwanted enzymes so toss it out. Using a powerful blender blend the nuts in 1/3 cup water until smooth.
Please let me know how it works out for you!
Thanks Crunchy Betty!
