A Spicy Ginger Cosmo to Ring in the New Year Right!

With New Year's Eve celebrations just around the corner, I thought I'd share a fun, fizzy, yummy drink recipe with you today.

This one is equally delicious with or without vodka thanks to the bottle of Q brand sparkling Ginger Tonic Water I found!  It's very spicy and very "gingery" with just a hint of sweetness from agave.  It needs very little adornment to make a variety of cocktails and mocktails for you and your guests.

Remember, ginger is one of those spices that has so many anti-inflammatory, immune building and anti-microbial properties that it is practically miraculous!  So what a fantastic way to end 2012 and begin 2013 . . . the healthy way!

Spicy Ginger Cosmo
This concoction of flavors is so delightful that you can serve it with or without vodka.  The spicy ginger will warm you, while the citrus and cranberry flavors pop on your tastebuds.  It's truly a party for your tastebuds and your entire immune system will thank you for it!

For each delicious drink you will need the following ingredients:

  • Crushed ice
  • 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons white cranberry juice
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 2 oz vodka (optional)
  • Q Ginger Tonic

In a shaker - or if making several a pitcher - add crushed ice, fruit juices and vodka.  Shake or stir and pour into an 8 ounce cocktail glass.  Top with Q Ginger Tonic (about 4 ounces) and garnish with a lime wedge.

If you cannot find Q Ginger Tonic, you can substitute a combination of 3 oz Reed's Ginger Beer and 1-2 oz Topo Chico or any sparkling water.  Since the ginger beer is sweeter than Q's the sparkling water will balance out your drink.

Then raise your glass to acknowledge all the good things 2012 brought you and toast to all the great things that lie ahead in 2013!

For more fantastic cocktail and mocktail recipes, visit my blog post from December 31, 2011 where you will find these delicious options . . .

For the Holiday Citrus & Rosemary Sparkling White Sangria, I incorporated seasonal fresh citrus fruit including tangerines, ruby red Texas grapefruit, exotic blood oranges and brilliant pomegranate seeds muddled in a very sweet Moscato wine and topped with a very reasonably priced sparkling wine.

For the Holiday Dried Fruit & Thyme Sparkling White Sangria I incorporated the bright flavors of dried cranberries, dried apricots, candied ginger and fresh pears with just a sprinkling of brilliantly red pomegranate seeds.

Surprisingly enough the most popular drink I concocted is the Sparkling Very Berry & Sage Mocktail.  This alcohol free drink is made from Knudsen's Just Pomegranate Juice, fresh berries, pomegranate seeds, fresh sage and my secret weapon Topo Chico sparkling water!  Of course, you can use any sparkling water but Topo Chico is the bubbliest, bubbly water I have ever found!

Now you can truly raise your glass to a healthier and happier 2013!
